BIE DELEGATION TO TANGIER, MOROCCO, FOR THE TANGIER 2012 WORLD EXPOSITION BID
The President of the BIE His Excellency Mr Wu Jianmin, and Secretary-General Sr Vicente González Loscertales, have led a BIE Delegation to Tangier, Morocco, for the Tangier 2012 World Exposition Bid. Meetings, Seminars, and Cultural Performances featured as part of the several-day visit. The theme for the proposed Exposition, to be held at the new Port of Tangier Mediterranean, is 'Culture and Routes of Travel'.

CITIES URGED TO PARTICIPATE AT SHANGHAI 2010
Keeping in line with the Shanghai 2010 theme of 'Better Cities, Better Life' and the growing rise of the City-State, Cities on the world stage will have a unique opportunity to host their own representation at the Expo. Focussing on the concept of world's best practice and urban development, the 'Urban Best Practices Area' will allow Cities around the world to showcase their best in challenges provided in 21st century urban development.

BIE PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY-GENERAL VISIT MILAN, ITALY, FOR THE 2015 MILAN EXPOSITION BID
BIE President His Excellency Mr Wu Jianmin and Secretary-General Sr Vicente González Loscertales have visited Milan, Italy, for talks with the President of Italy, H.E. Mr Giorgio Napolitano, Prime Minister of Italy the Honourable Mr Romano Prodi, and the Mayor of Milan, the Honourable Ms. Letizia Moratti for the 2105 Milan World Exposition bid. The theme for the proposed Exposition is 'Food and Energy for the World'.

The number of international participants at Shanghai 2010 increases from 133 to 143 nations. Guyana, Fiji, the Niger, Mauritius, Thailand, and Austria are among the new participants.
 
The Cities theme of the Shanghai 2010 Expo is extended with the launch of a dedicated 15-hectares of the Expo site for the new 'Urban Best Practices Area', where selected cities from around the world will be asked to present their 'best practice' in their city's urban development. This could mean a working exhibit of a 21st century office-residential-parkland hub, a series of carraiges from a high-speed transit authority inter-urban transport system, including platform and interactive data timetable information services at the stop itself, and so on - the emphasis will be on working to-scale exhibits.

The 'harmonious ecological city' shall be the guiding precepts for the Expo 2010 site, including clean 'low emission' energy, recycled water, mist water fountain air conditioning, 'underground' garbage collection, extra green parkland built adjoining the Huangpu River banks, and digital wi-fi guide for mobile phones to direct you to the Expo.

Greek Foreign Affairs Minister visits Expo Site
The Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Ms Dora Bakoyannis MP and delegation visited the Shanghai Expo Authority and met with Ms Zhong Yanqun, Authority Deputy Director and other members of the Authority. Ms Bakoyannis also viewed the Expo site. The 2,000-square-meter Greece Pavilion is located in Zone C of the World Expo Site.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Visits Expo Authority
Premier of the People's Republic of China Wen Jiabao visited the Expo Authority during a three-day visit to Shanghai. 'An Economic Olympics', the Premier praised the Expo Authority's progress and the Expo's City-Urban theme, which promises to launch eco-friendly development on the world's stage, and the City of Shanghai as a new economic, financial, trade and shipping world centre.

Australian Delegation Visits Shanghai

Expo to Promote Shanghai City's Development
Mayor of Shanghai Mr Han Zheng was Guest Speaker at an International Forum on the Development of Cities held at Tongji University, Shanghai. As Mayor Mr Han noted at the Forum, "Shanghai must seize the opportunities presented by World Expo 2010 to solve the problems created by urbanization and to accelerate the city's development ... Globalisation and urbanisation .... must become more people-oriented and promote harmonious societies."

Pavilions Construction Phase Enters
A Ceremony to dedicate the construction of the first phase of Pavilions for Shanghai 2010, for Zone Asia at the Expo, was held in Shanghai on the 21 May. This is the first zone under construction at the Expo, and shall serve as a model for the other Zones at the Expo.

The Honourable Mr Peter Beattie MP, Premier and Minister for Trade, State Government of Queensland has announced Queensland's funding for the Australia Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010. This follows from an enhanced presence for the State at the Australian Pavilion for Aichi World Expo 2005 Japan.

SMART STATE FRONT AND CENTRE AT WORLD'S BIGGEST SHOW IN 2010 : PRESS RELEASE 28 MAY 2007
 
Queensland will have a strong presence at World Expo 2010 in Shanghai with a myriad of Queensland ideas, arts, services, products and cultural icons on show to the world, Premier Peter Beattie announced today. Mr Beattie said the Queensland Government would invest $3.6 million over the next four years to ensure Queensland makes maximum impact at the Expo which will run from May 1 to October 31, 2010.
 
"The Queensland Government invested $1.4 million in World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan with the special Queensland Week in April 2005 attracting more than 71,000 visitors to the Australian Pavilion," Mr Beattie said. "We are keen to lift Queensland's profile even higher in Shanghai. Queensland has a long standing Sister State relationship with Shanghai which will be re-signed later this year. A strong Queensland strong presence in Shanghai at the Expo will further strengthen those ties. We are confident World Expo 2010 will provide a strong platform for businesses, governments, education and research organisations to cement existing relationships with China and ignite new opportunities," Mr Beattie said.

Foundation Expo '88 continues its promotion for the Joint 32nd Summer Games Olympiad and 2020 Universal Exposition at the City of Uluru, celebrating the 250th Anniversary of New South Wales 1770 to 2020 A.D. and the creation of a global technopolis City-State and World Centre for Indigenous Affairs and Public Policy. The Exp0lympiad - the first proposed Joint Olympiad and Universal Exposition since 1900 Paris and 1904 St Louis - also introduces a new term into the parlance of the Olympic Games and World Expositions with a new Joint Summer Olympic Games and Universal Class Exposition Category I.O.C. and B.I.E.
