COLLEGE OF COMMISSIONERS FOR ZARAGOZA EXPO 2008 ESTABLISHED
The College of Commissioners has been established for Zaragoza Expo 2008. A unique body formed of the Commissioner-Generals - the highest delegate - of participant Pavilions at an Expo for the purposes of BIE, Expo Authority, and inter-participant dialogue, Mr Rolando Borges Martin, Commissioner-General for the Pavilion of Portugal has been elected unanimously as President of the new body, reflecting his extensive experience with Expo 1998 Lisbon Portugal, and in the Lisbon Exposition redevelopment.

SECOND INTERNATIONAL PLANNING MEETING FOR ZARAGOZA 2008
350 representatives from the 95 confirmed participants at Zaragoza 2008 attended the Second International Planning Meeting, held July 4. “An Expo is a vision of the future of the International community and a massive cooperation effort," said BIE Secretary-General Sr Vicente González Loscertales at the Meeting, a review of all progress to date, and key future target indicators.

BIE AND EXPO '90 FOUNDATION LAUNCH THE BIE COSMOS PRIZE
President of the BIE Sr Vicente González Loscertales and Expo '90 Foundation President Mr Toru Makino, in the presence of Expo 2008 President Mr Roque Gistau, signed an agreement in Zaragoza launching the 'BIE Cosmos Prize' - a  new program that rewards civic initiatives at an Expo that articulate the Exposition theme. To be awarded during the hosting of an Exposition, a cash prize of 20,000 euros is given to the winner.

BIE DELEGATION VISITS WROCLAW, POLAND
A delegation from the BIE, led by Secretary-General Sr Vicente González and Executive Committee Chair and Mission Executive Ms Carmen Sylvain, visited Wroclaw Poland to view Wroclaw's proposal for the 2012 World Exposition. Viewing the City's infrastructure, site model drafts, and meeting with City and Bid officials formed an important part of the visit.

ECUADOR AND PAKISTAN JOIN THE BIE
With the addition of the Republic of Ecuador and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Membership base of the BIE, the BIE now has 100 member states.

NYC Advertising Campaign Commences
A 2-month advertising campaign has started in New York City, as part of China's NYC National Tourism Bureau office, featuring advertising 'Welcome to Shanghai - 2010 Expo' and photographs of the Shanghai Bund and Pudong New Area, on NYC tourist double-decker sightseeing buses and cars.

British Designers Visit Expo Site
Six groups competing for the UK Pavilion design tender for Shanghai visited the Shanghai Expo site to firm up their final proposals. Chosen from over 40 design groups - including the design group that created the London Eye - the groups have until the mid-July to submit their final proposals, which will be displayed at a special exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum between the end of July and September.

Indian Delegation Visits Expo Authority
H.E. S.M. Acharya, Additional Secretary of the Indian Ministry for Urban Development met with Deputy Director General Mr Zhou Hanmin at the Shanghai Expo Authority and exchanged notes regarding the India Pavilion at Shanghai and the Expo's progress so far. Read the Press Release here:

Shanghai 2010 presents paper to the Sixth United Nations Information Service Annual Council in Madrid
Deputy Director General of Shanghai Expo 2010 Mr Zhou Hanmin presented a paper to the United Nations Information Service Annual Council, calling for greater collaboration between the Shanghai World Expo Authority and the UN, highlighting the progress of the Expo.

His Majesty and Her Majesty the King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophia of Spain Visit Shanghai Expo Authority
Welcomed by Shanghai Mayor Mr Han Zheng, His Majesty and Her Majesty the King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophia of Spain visited the Expo Authority and exchanged notes on the growing Spain-China relationship, highlighted this year with the special 'Spain in China' Cultural Festival. The meeting was joined by Vice-Mayor of Shanghai Tang Dengjie and China's Ambassador to Spain H.E. Qui Xiaoqi.

South Pacific Tourism Organisation and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Visit Shanghai Expo Authority
Delegates from the South Pacific Tourism Organisation and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat visited the Shanghai Expo Authority to firm up representation by Pacific nations at the Expo, at the Pacific Pavilion, a joint Pavilion of 16 Pacific nations including Fiji, Palau, and the Kingdom of Tonga. Participants intend to spice up the representation with the sights, sounds, and smells of Pacific island paradise.

Foundation Expo '88 leads the way in proposing future World Expositions - all of different classification, duration, and location - for 2007 to 2023. These include:
* The Queensland Sesquicentenary International Exposition 1859-2009. 698 Days to Go. 6 June to 6 August 2009. Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the State of Queensland. A 2-month international specialised Exposition on the theme of The Governance and The State in the Third Millennium, requesting province/state-level government representation.
* The Pan-Pacific International Exposition. 1 May to 30 September 2015. 2,853 Days to Go. A 5-City International Exposition on the theme of 'The Pacific Nation', at Lima Peru, San Francisco California, Honolulu Hawai'i, Tokyo Japan, and Brisbane Australia, the largest capital cities on the centre edge perimeter of the Pacific Rim. The Exposition celebrates the Intercoastal Express - a 4 mach supersonic magnetic levitation train network, sitting at 2,000 metres below the sea's surface, in air tight tube-tunnels, centred on Honolulu Hawai'i and extending in starburst fashion to other capitals of the Pacific. Celebrating the Centenary of the Panama Canal and the 1915 Pan Panama International Exposition.
* expo2020lympiad uluru. 1 May to 1 November 2020 A.D. 4,680 Days to Go. The Joint 32nd Summer Games Olympiad and 2020 Universal Exposition at the City-State of Uluru. Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of New South Wales 1770-2020 A.D. since the annexation of the Eastern Australian continent by Captain James Cook and His Majesty's Barque the Endeavour at Possession Island, Cape York Peninsula, in the name of King George the Third, 21 August 1770 A.D. and the creation of a new global technopolis City-State and World Centre for Indigenous Affairs and Public Policy at Uluru. 2,000 persons from every nation on earth will be asked to become new dual citizens of the City-State of Uluru, which will grow at a rate of two nations per week from 2018 to 2020 A.D. creating a City-State of 400,000 persons. Exposition Theme: Respect and Preservation of the World's Indigenous Cultures. Subthemes: People Born of the Land - the Native People. People Born of other Lands - the New Arrivals. People of a New Land - the Native and the New Arrivals - Together - in a New Land. To feature the 1,000 metre high symbol tower adjacent to Uluru, the world's tallest structure - 'Native Australia' - an Australian indigenous desert male, leaning on a spear for support. NEPAL FRIENDSHIP WALK - SUNDAY 22 JULY 2007 MEET AT 9AM AT CAPTAIN BURKE PARK, KANGAROO POINT
An annual fundraiser for the Nepal Australia Friendship Association (Queensland Branch), the Nepal Friendship Walk commences at Captain Burke Park, Kangaroo Point at 9am, and continues to the Nepal Peace Pagoda before returning for Nepalese food, music, and stalls. A fun and enjoyable day guaranteed! We will be conducting special Guided Tours of the Pagoda and give special Commemorative Certificates to all participants who come by the Pagoda. BRISBANE CATHEDRALS' WEEK - AT THE NEPAL PEACE PAGODA
Foundation Expo '88 and The Friends of the Pagoda Association are working to create a unique complement to this year's Cathedrals' Week program in September, with a three-nation sacred Asian court music festival to launch the Pagoda's front forecourt as the stage for the performing arts as The Brisbane Nepal Peace Pagoda Forecourt Theatre, with programs from Nepal, Bali, and Japan - featuring artists in traditional attire, using traditional court instruments - over the Cathedrals' Week weekend of September 15 and September 16 2007.
