| Transport,
leisure and technology were some of the palpable themes of the West
German Pavilion, with the latest models of Mercedes 4-WDs and sports
convertibles; personal hang-gliders, and ultralight aircraft on
display outside the Pavilion entrance, and a yet-to-be released all-purpose
water-and-terrain 4WD which made it's debut on display on the inside. These themes also featured in the amphitheatre-like setting of the centre of the Pavilion, where a three-screened action-packed audio-visual presentation, surrounded by static sports leisure displays, took centre stage. One of the more memorable highlights from the West German Pavilion (and of World Expo '88) however, was undoubtedly the music fountain which entertained those in the queue outside of the Pavilion and those walking by the European Boulevard. One of the most loved pieces of outdoor art at the Exposition, an 18-jet fountain placed along one side of the pavilion walls playfully jumped and danced according to the pitch of the music - whether it be voice or instrument - providing a calm and relaxing visual treat to visitors stressed out at pavilion lines and Brisbane's balmy winter weather. |
