The Expo City Marching Band
The
66-strong ensemble of the 'Expo City Marching
Band' was born out of an idea by Head
of the Entertainment Division, Ric Birch,
after his experiences from working with
Marching Bands for the 1984 Los Angeles
Olympic Games.
A project 3 years in the making, in mid-1986 students from three Brisbane High Schools were chosen to form the core of the band, and they began their performance schedule at large live events as a preparation for the Exposition in late 1987. |

During
their hectic Exposition schedule they
performed in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies,
as well as National Day events,
Day parades and in the various different
performing venues of the Expo, in a variety
of configurations which allowed swing,
rock, classical chamber groups, fanfare
groups, dixie, brass and woodwind groups,
pop, and a clown band.
